When more dogs arrive than we can get out in a timely manner, our longest residents become URGENT. Often these are larger breed dogs that we adore but have simply been at the shelter too long with little to no interest from rescues, adopters, or fosters. When dogs are marked urgent, we could lose them at any time with little to no notice.
Elphaba - possibly pregnant
11/13/24 Intake: bulldog mix, 58 lbs, 2 yrs old, female, HW-, abandoned. Elphaba was brought in by animal control. She was abandoned on Broach street in Hartsville. She did very well for Intake. Elphaba is heartworm negative. Such a sweet girl.

Ernie
4/8/24 Intake: lab mix, 53 lbs, 3 yrs old, male, HW-, stray. Ernie came in with Bert. These boys were shy and could benefit from a foster home.
More about Ernie Jul 30, 2024: Meet Ernie. He came in with his best friend Bert, and he’s depended on him for comfort and confidence. Ernie has made wonderful progress being open and trusting with people and is ready to find a home willing to be patient for the reward of helping him be wholly trusting. Ernie will bond with his family, eventually knowing he no longer needs to be shy and can love fully. Ernie gets along with dogs just fine and will take notes from another confident dog. He has a wonderful smile that will make you light up seeing his personality come through. Ernie is a Lab mix, good around cats, around 3 years old, 38 pounds, and Heartworm negative - he’s ready to go home.

3/5/24 Intake: shepherd/husky mix, 36 lbs, 1.5 yrs old, female, HW+, stray. Foxy came in with Dakota as strays through animal control from Property St. in Lamar. She completed her intake with ease. Foxy is heartworm positive.

8/15/24 Intake: lab mix, 36 lbs, 1 yr old, female, HW-, stray. Giselle was brought in by animal control from East Seven Pines in Hartsville. She is very sweet. She did well for intake. Giselle is heartworm negative.
Foster Update Sep 20, 2024: Giselle is definitely coming out of her shell in our home. She's now a pretty good leash walker. She's working on her potty training. She loves to run and play in the yard. She goes in the house without problems. She gets along with dogs and ignores the cats.

10/9/24 Intake: bulldog mix, 56 lbs, 2-3 yrs old, female, HW-, stray. Glinda was brought in as a stray by Hartsville Fire Department. She was running along Malboro Avenue in Hartsville. Glinda is a beautiful girl. She did well for intake. Glinda is heartworm negative.

Grouper
3/26/24 Intake: lab mix, 34 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW+, owner surrender. Grouper was brought from Animal Control as an owner surrender. He is such a sweet boy and did great for his intake. He played with Trout in the medroom for a while and walked well on a leash. Grouper is heartworm positive.

9/22/23 Intake: hound mix, 50 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW+, stray. Hans was brought in by animal control as a stray from Sandlin Ave in Lamar. He is very friendly.
*NEW* Foster Update Sep 7, 2024: Meet Hans! Hans is a gentle hound dog who has been in a foster home for seven months. He does great with the two other dogs he lives with as well as the two small children [age 3 and 5] who also are in the house. Hans is house trained and crate trained and has been enrolled in weekly dog training sessions for some time. Mealtime are Hans favorite times, and he also enjoys his morning walk and (weather-permitting) afternoon walk. Hans is pooped by dinner time and spends his evenings on the couch. Despite being great with other dogs and children, Hans is NOT a fan of cats and should not be in a home with them.

11/26/24 Intake: terrier mix, 61 lbs, 2 yrs old, male, HW+, stray. Headley was brought in as a stray surrender. From what the young woman told us, they found him at a hunting club and were unable to keep him. He’s a sweet boy and did great for intake. Headley is heart worm positive.

8/21/24 Intake: shepherd/doberman pinscher mix, 38 lbs, 2 yrs old, female, HW+, stray. Heidi was brought in by animal control after being hit by a car near Fastenal. She had a broken leg, and her hip was out of place. The vet was able to get her hip back in place and has splinted the leg for now. She is a sweet girl that is currently in foster. Heidi is heartworm Positive.

Hemsworth - (trial adoption 11/16/24)
11/8/24 Intake: bulldog mix, 39 lbs, 1-2 yrs old, male, HW-, stray. Hemsworth and Thunder were brought in together by Animal control from 134 MM West on I-20. They both did great for intake. Hemsworth seems to be the big brother of the two. Hemsworth is heartworm negative.

Henry - Dec 2022 Intake
12/15/22 Intake: lab mix, 50 lbs, 1 yr old, male, no HW, stray.
Foster Update Sep 11, 2024: Henry is an altered, 3 yr old sweet boy who gets along with big and small dogs. He has had no issues with cats. He's an easy leash walker and is crate trained. Henry loves to play outside with friends but is quiet and calm inside the house.

7/8/24 Intake: terrier mix, 37 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW-, owner surrender. Holt, a terrier mix who is about a year old, was an owner surrender. Despite the circumstances, Holt did well during intake and showed what a sweet boy he is. Additionally, Holt tested negative for heartworms.

Janelle - URGENT DUE TO TIME AT SHELTER
6/24/24 Intake: lab mix, 34 lbs, 1.5 yrs old, female, HW+, stray. Janelle came in with 2 other dogs from the same location. She did well for intake. Janelle is heartworm positive.
More about Janelle Nov 26, 2024: Janelle, very sweet 1 year old 43lb heart worm positive lab mix is hoping for a home for the holidays. She arrived in late June with several other dogs and has waited so long to be chosen. Janelle is such a loving girl! She was happy to get lots of attention from the volunteers during play groups, seeking out affection. She’s dog friendly, meeting both male and female dogs in the play yard. She has shared her kennel with 2 other females and they got along so well. Male friend Kuzco was happy to hang out with her. Janelle is a nice size at 43 lbs, walks well on a leash, and is a calm beauty who would happily snuggle with you while streaming your favorite holiday shows.

5/31/24 Intake: shepherd mix, 50 lbs 2 yrs old, male, HW-, owner surrender. Kaleb was brought in as an owner surrender. He is such a sweet boy. He gets along great with his kennelmates Mindy and Tinsley. He did well for intake. Kaleb is heartworm negative.
More about Kaleb Jul 30, 2024: Kaleb, a 1 1/2 year old 50lb heartworm negative shepherd mix was adopted out as a pup and returned a year later for escaping the fenced in yard. Kaleb is crate trained, dog friendly, likes kids, but no cats please. Kaleb is a handsome, sweet guy that knows what living in a home was like. When he first came back to the shelter he was unsure and looked to his handlers for direction. He has become more confident and met several dogs in play groups. He's happy to play with bigger gals like Nova or hanging out with low key, smaller Annemarie. Kaleb is polite when meeting others and seems to be a good on a leash. Kaleb seeks out attention and will roll over for belly rubs. Ask for Kaleb today; he’s ready to find his new home.
